I think we can’t rely on the individual developer to save the environment by adopting these practices. It simply isn’t going to happen because there isn’t incentive in it. In fact if developers are burdened by adopting such practices they will be less inclined. Their boss and their bosses’ boss will not accept slower development cycles to “save the environment”. What we need are laws. Or at the very least we need some set of standards, certification etc so that everyone is aligned with the same set of goals and expectations. I mean listen I’m sure most developers would love to be more efficient but if the incentives aren’t there it won’t happen.
